What you can instruct

Types of Assignment

Expert report

Site visit, evidence preservation, laboratory examination, cause analysis by exclusion method and calculation. For disputed causes and large losses.

Statement

Short assessment of cause and plausibility from the file, with or without a site visit. For clear cases and quick decisions.

Document review

Review of quotations and invoices for relation to the loss and market rates, current value per valuation guideline, separation of unrelated items.

Recourse report

Technical basis for recourse against installer, planner, maintenance company or manufacturer. Defects documented, causality substantiated, standards named.

Liability and defence of claims

Review of the claim raised against your policyholder: responsibility, extent, reasonableness. Including cable and civil engineering damage.

Court and private expert reports

Answering questions of evidence in pending proceedings, review of third-party reports, statements on product liability cases.

What you receive

How Every Report Is Structured

A fixed structure, so your claims handlers find the answer to every question of evidence in the same place.

  1. Assignment and questions of evidence

Your questions verbatim, so it is clear what the report answers.

  2. System and equipment data

Manufacturer, type, year of construction, operating time, documentation and maintenance status.

  3. Findings

Findings from the site visit and the laboratory, with photos and measurements.

  4. Cause analysis

Every conceivable cause examined individually and ruled out with reasons, until the most probable remains.

  5. Calculation

Verified amount of loss, current value or repair basis, yield loss, separation of items.

  6. Summary

Answer to every question of evidence in one paragraph, recourse recommendation where it arises.

From notification to report

How an Assignment Proceeds

  1. Notification

Via the claim form on this site, by e-mail or by phone. Questions of evidence, policyholder contact, available documents.

  2. Confirmation

We confirm the assignment and name the expert handling the case.

  3. Scheduling

We arrange the site visit directly with the policyholder and request missing documents.

  4. Site visit and evidence preservation

Documentation of the trace pattern, securing of exhibits, on-site measurements.

  5. Laboratory

Disassembly, age determination via date codes, micro-focus X-ray of electronics, lightning location data, where on-site findings are insufficient.

  6. Report

As PDF to your claims department, on request with advance information on cause and order of magnitude.

Examination Methods

An extract of what we use regularly. Which method a case requires is decided by the findings on site.

  • Micro-focus X-ray examination of semiconductors and cells for damage not visible from outside
  • Disassembly and age determination of electronics via component date codes
  • Lightning location data for the site and time to verify surge reports
  • Insulation and winding measurement on compressors, motors and inverters
  • Evaluation of monitoring, logger and battery management data up to the moment of failure
  • Standards check against the edition in force in the year of installation

The list is not exhaustive. Where it does not answer the question of evidence, we call in test laboratories, materials institutes and manufacturers.

Frequent Questions from Claims Departments

How soon is a site visit possible?

Usually within a few working days of receiving the assignment. Large losses and fire losses requiring evidence preservation are prioritised.

Do you also work outside Germany?

Yes. Luxembourg, France, Belgium, Austria and Switzerland are part of our regular area of operation. Reports in German, English or French.

What happens to the damaged goods?

We secure exhibits, store them and document the chain. Components disposed of prematurely are the most frequent reason a cause remains open.

Do you also take on cases outside renewable energies?

Yes, through our sister company IGO Ingenieurgesellschaft Opp mbH: electrical engineering, building services, fire causes, machinery, medical technology. One contact, one group.

Do you have a case?

Call us or send the claim notification with your questions of evidence.
